Dr. Estelle Clements is an established researcher in the emerging field of Digital Civics. She is recognized for formulating the earliest definition and conceptual framework for the discipline, and in 2010, she launched the first global Digital Civics pedagogy initiative in collaboration with Dublin City Libraries’ One City, One Book programme and Technological University Dublin.

Her academic work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Documentation, Memory Studies, and Philosophy & Technology, contributing significantly to discourse at the intersection of civic engagement, digital culture, and education.

Dr. Clements’ interest in Digital Civics and its educational potential is rooted in her formative experiences at Morinville Community High School and Acadia University, institutions known for early experimentation in technology-mediated learning during the late 1990s. She holds undergraduate degrees in Theatre, Classics, and Education from Acadia University. She later completed a Master’s in the History of Medicine under a Wellcome Trust Scholarship, followed by her PhD work on Digital Civics at Technological University Dublin, where she was awarded a competitive doctoral scholarship.

In addition to her research, Dr. Clements holds teaching certifications in both Canada and the United Kingdom. She has led several community-focused projects, including the production of Bram Stoker’s Wedding, which played a role in Dublin’s successful designation as a UNESCO City of Literature.
