Dr. Estelle Clements is a researcher in Digital Civics. After formulating a definition and conceptual underpinning for Digital Civics, she launched the first global digital civics pedagogy project in 2010, working together with Dublin City Libraries, One City, One Book. She has published in the Journal of Documentation, Memory Studies, and Philosophy & Technology.
Dr. Clements credits her interest in digital civics and its education to her own student experiences at Morinville Community High School, and Acadia University, which pioneered experimental technologically mediated education projects in the late 1990s. After completing degrees in Theatre, Classics, and then Education, at Acadia University, Clements later completed a Masters in the History of Medicine on a Wellcome Scholarship. She then received a PhD scholarship to pursue her digital civics research from Technological University Dublin, graduating in 2018.
In addition to her research, she holds teaching qualifications for Canada and the United Kingdom. She has also managed a number of projects in community oriented settings, including her production of Bram Stoker’s Wedding, that supported Dublin’s successful bid for UNESCO City of Literature designate status.
